2018 Amlés Reflectionist Cabernet Sauvignon (California)

$135 | Winemaker: Philippe Melka & Maayan Koschitzky

The 2018 Reflectionist Cabernet Sauvignon is a masterpiece from Philippe
Melka and Maayan Koschitzky, renowned for blending the finesse of Bordeaux
with the boldness of Napa Valley. Cultivated from the best and historic vineyards
of Glass Slipper in Coombsville and Vine Hill Ranch in Oakville, this wine reflects
a confluence of diverse microclimates and soils, lending it a complexity that
captivates the palate.

A bouquet of Asian spices and vanilla bean heralds the wine’s nuanced profile,
with underlying savory notes that evoke its earthy origins. The palate is rich with
a procession of flavors, from luxurious mocha to the dark sweetness of ripe
blackberries, all wrapped in a dense, plush mouthfeel. The tannins are initially
firm, but as the wine opens, they reveal a refined polish, showcasing Melka’s
deft craftsmanship.

The wine has the seduction and purity reminiscent of a great left bank Bordeaux
-vintage. Aromas of Asian spices, vanilla bean and savory undertones lead
to a cascade of flavors such as mocha and blackberries. The mouthfeel is plush
and dense with a deeply textured fullness. The tannins are firm, but over time
in the glass, give way to an interwoven polish. The balance is exquisite, providing
a sense of instant pleasure with a refined persistence in the finish. This Reflectionist
label “Selma Spirit” was painted by renowned artist JD Miller and was inspired
by Scott Miller and Sharon Virts’ home, Selma Mansion.
