2020 Amlés Reflectionist Cabernet Sauvignon (California)

$95 | Winemaker: Philippe Melka & Maayan Koschitzky

The 2020 Amlés Reflectionist, a poignant tribute to the valor and perseverance of Napa Valley’s first responders and community during the 2020 fires, is a vintage born of both challenge and triumph. With a label crafted by artist JD Miller, titled “Ember, Ash, and Hope,” the wine encapsulates the narrative of that fateful year, symbolizing the strength and resilience that rose from the adversity.

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, meticulously created by Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky, is a testament to the undeterred spirit of winemaking. Aged for 27 months, with a significant portion in new French oak, this wine has been sculpted with time, emerging with a profound structure and an array of compelling textures.

On the nose, the 2020 Reflectionist offers a tapestry of rich aromas, where the depth of blackberry, plum, and cherry prevails. These primary scents are elegantly layered with the earthy complexity of tobacco and cedar, intertwined with the aromatic dryness of herbs. The palate is greeted with a vibrant fruitiness, which transitions seamlessly into a backdrop of tobacco and cedar, culminating in a finish marked by a striking minerality reminiscent of graphite.

Harvested from the revered Glass Slipper vineyard in the cooler Coombsville AVA, this wine embodies the essence of its origin. With excellent acidity harmoniously balancing the tannic heft, the 2020 Reflectionist is poised for early enjoyment and promises longevity for several decades.
